 Opioid Free

With 1 in every 10 American adults experiencing chronic pain, more than 25 million adults are reporting pain daily for three greater than three months. This manifests in the form of severe headache or migraine, lower back or neck pain, pain in the knees, shoulders, fingers, and hips to name a few. In 2015 more than 1.5 billion people suffered from chronic pain, and approximately 3–4.5% of the global population suffered from neuropathic pain.

For centuries, opioids have been an accepted therapy for pain patients, however, research shows that the extended prescription of opioids (>8 weeks) for the treatment of chronic pain has questionable benefits. Despite the current research indicating ill effects of opioid use, US retail pharmacies still dispensed 245 million prescriptions for opioid pain relievers in 2015 alone.

Recognizing the fact that millions of Americans are either opioid dependent or abuse prescription opioids, the government has begun limiting ease of access to prevent dependency and misuse. On the heels of this opioid crisis, chronic pain patients have begun seeking non-pharmaceutical treatments and opioid alternatives.

By embracing a Functional Medicine approach to pain management, we are able to better understand the underlying causes of a person’s individual experience with chronic pain. Our model of care embraces a multidisciplinary approach to providing therapy with opioid alternatives, modifiable lifestyle factors like diet and exercise, education, and a multitude of research-based therapies that are able to reset and rebuild the body’s own ability to care for itself.

 Opioid Free Anesthesia

We believe that delivering our Anesthesia in an opioid free is the safest option for anesthesia administration. By treating intra-operative and post-operative pain through the aggressive use of regional nerve blocks and non-opioid pharmacology, we are able to drastically reduce and, in most cases, eliminate the harmful effects of opioids such as respiratory depression, cardiovascular depression, prolonged sedation, nausea and vomiting.

Surgery changes the body’s nervous system by sensitizing and magnifying the pain the patient feels. Because we understand this, we can treat post-operative pain like a disease and customize your anesthetic to protect you from this phenomenon, while simultaneously increasing comfort, healing, and functionality after surgery. Because we are able to do this opioid free there is no risk of opioid related side effects or addiction.
